ONGOING ACTIVITIES
Programme activities:
“Lasting peace cannot be achieved unless large populations & groups find ways in which to breakout of poverty. Micro-credit is one such means. Democracy from below also serves to advance democracy & human rights”.
1. Micro-lending:
This component aims to serve the poor women alleviate poverty through self-employment initiatives. It is intended to increase women participation in economic activities.
Chelma Advisory Institute achieves these through:
§ Strengthening existing CBOs/individuals through micro-credits.
§ Develop the capacity of the members of CBOs, individual entrepreneurs by giving entrepreneurship development and marketing.
§ Create an environment of fair-trading by establishing linkages between small business people and producers.
§ Ensuring 100% recovery of loans to use for next cycle and sustainability of CBOs and individuals.
2. Basic health and nutrition:
Chelma Advisory Institute (CAI) contributes in improving basic health and nutrition by:
§ Intensifying HIV/AIDS control and prevention, VAD programmes.
§ Improving nutritional status of mothers and children through training and awareness creation.
§ Social support for orphaned children through (Help Kids Project).
3. Institutional capacity building:
To improve the CBOs, individual capacity to manage their projects and ensure sustainability, Chelma Advisory Institute trains them on:-
§ Group dynamism & management.
§ Leadership.
§ Community mobilization.
§ Proposal writing.
§ Entrepreneurship development & marketing
§ Simple accounting and savings through safe save plan.
4. Environmental conservation:
The organization promotes environment conservation by:
§ Creating awareness and skill building in sustainable and natural resource management.
§ Establishing tree nurseries.
§ Distributing of tree seeds.
5. Civic and legal education:
· Training on human rights issues.
· Making available reference materials on law.
6.Resource mobilization:
The organization ensures sustainability through:
§ Collaboration with line agencies for effective & efficient delivery of services to community members.
§ Organizing effective fundraising activities.
§ Establishing partnership with potential donors/Individuals.

Chelma Advisory Institute (CAI) uses participatory approach in community development.
This includes:-
· Training community own resource persons and promoters.
· Strengthening community based organizations (CBOs) and individuals.
· Networking with key collaborators and other stakeholders.
· Involving community members/individuals in participatory project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
